Arthur's Playlist From Thanksgiving

Before enjoying the Thanksgiving holiday, I (Samuel B. Prime) left Arthur a stack of CDs that he should use to play on the air for today's show. I did get a chance to listen in for a bit and by the looks of it, he played a lot of what I recommended but then also brought some of his own music flair into the mix. All in all, it seems like it was a pretty successful show, though I don't know what the Thanksgivings Day Parade Clip was. Can anybody help me out?

Power Hour Takes The Day Off!

Say hello to...

ARTHUR!

Ladies and gentleman, please allow me to inform you that because both Grant and I cannot pass up the opportunity to engorge ourselves with turkey, cranberry sauce and heated debates between our respective extended families (we're not related), the Power Hour won't be running tomorrow.

Instead longtime Chicago disc jockey and part-time employee at the Schaumburg Roller Rink, Arthur Birnthistle, will be taking over for the duration of our Continental Drift hour and a half. Birnthistle, while I've never met the man, is said to have exquisite taste in music, though he often finds himself at a loss for words to describe the music (that is, unless you count onomatopoeia).

So, even though we won't be there tomorrow, please tune in for Arthur's show. I'm sure it'll be a riot. I don't know if he'll have any kind of a Thanksgiving theme, but time will tell, I suppose!

Overtime! [Updated]

The Tribute Show usually operates under the mantra of "Power and a half for an hour and a half"; today's show was an exception. Due to factors outside of our control, our show went on for another 45 minutes; which made "Over twice the power for more than two hours" a bit more fitting. Luckily, we were prepared for just such an occasion. Sam and I had both brought extra music for no logical reason and I'm glad I finally seized the opportunity to play some ELO. If anyone kept listening after our regular sign-off time, I hope you enjoyed the bonus tracks. They won't be posted as a playlist, so "The Day the Show Couldn't Die" may just become an urban legend. At 2:45 we decided to turn off the transmitter, so anyone who turned in after that found dead air. Sorry, but it was necessary. The dead air playlist will also not be added to the blog.

I believe the Beatles show was a success, even though it was the first time we've never had a caller. We learned more about the power of bacon sandwiches and the mighty Bowie. I for one am anxious to see Sam's skills in wizardry develop. Perhaps he will learn to remove the curse put upon him that prevents him from enjoying an absolutely brilliant film: The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra.

One bit of business that was left unfinished this afternoon was the matter of last week's theme-guessing contest. We discussed the merits and shortcomings of the technically-oriented guesses, but didn't call to attention the two more artistic suggestions. The first runner-up in this category was "Sarah Palin". A few weeks ago this might have won, but at the Tribute Show we are on the cutting edge of topicality, unlike Mrs. Palin.

That just leaves the winner. The solution that made me laugh most was that I am unable to speak Italian, no matter how long I've been studying it. Impressively, the young lady that provided this answer cataloged contextual evidence as well. For the most entertaining answer, Alaina Andzelewski has won the chance to have me come to her home and cook mashed potatoes.

11/24 Update: On Saturday night our winner claimed her prize, and the potatoes were delicious.

The theme was Beatles. It wasn't a mystery. There's no contest this week. Wah!

November 13th Playlist + Contest!

Today's show had a theme -- oh yes, it most certainly did. But that theme was a complete and utter mystery deftly kept a secret by both Sam and Grant from the listening audiences. You, the audience, can guess what the theme is. If you do, win a prize. Post what you think the theme was and we'll let you know!

Live in the studio today, we had the extreme honor of interviewing Dr. Rudolf Volz, composer of Faust I, Faust II and Hamlet in Rock. In the studio also with Volz was Andreas Stockhausen, who played Osric, The Killing Soldier and other roles in Hamlet in Rock.
